The traditional design-bid-build project delivery process includes procedures and legal requirements that are well-known, but often unappreciated by project clients. After more than a century of dominating the design and construction process, this linear, or sequential, approach to project delivery is being challenged by varying forms of construction management, program management, design-build, early contractor involvement, and forms of design assist and integrated project delivery. As project delivery systems proliferate, the role of design and construction firms are changing. Often, that role is diminished and, thus, challenging the design professional's authority and ability as the prime design professional to carry out the protection of public health and safety assigned by licensing laws and intrinsic in performing professional services.
This webinar can help design professionals understand how changes in project delivery methods affect their practice and their performance. It examines the attributes and client-perceived limitations of design-bid-build and the basic characteristics of the alternatives to the traditional project delivery system. The discussion also analyzes the ability of the design firm to perform its services profitably and in accordance with the licensing law requirement that the design firm protect public health and safety.
